A Complete List of English Academies in Barcelona

Or at least an attempt at one. This list was last updated in November 2025. 

Although there are several ways you can apply for jobs as an English Teacher in Barcelona (such as Jobs in Barcelona or Lingo Bongo), many positions aren’t advertised. I have found at least two opportunities through simply emailing my CV with a short, personalised text directly to English academies. It is a common way to apply for ESL jobs in Barcelona and is certainly recommended if you’re not getting any results from advertised positions.

With so many English academies in Barcelona, it can be difficult to know where to start. A Google search will bring up many academies, but not all of them. There are so many small academies which have very little online presence and which can be difficult to discover. One of them could be your ideal workplace! 

Another problem is that Google Maps locations can often be outdated. Academies may have closed but may not have removed their location from Maps. As a consequence, your CV ends up in the dark, depressing corner of cyberspace where unopened emails go to die.

On the other hand, the larger, franchised academies may have a much bigger web presence and may receive a lot more applications as a result. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they are better employers. That’s why it’s important to do your research to ensure you avoid bad ESL employers, as well as apply to as many academies as possible. 

As an English Teacher, you are broadening the horizons of your students and giving them opportunities they otherwise would not have. You deserve a good employer, and for that you need options. To make this process easier, I have spent over ten hours compiling this list so you don’t have to. 

Methodology

First, I used Chatgpt to comb the internet, which resulted in a list of 79 academies. I verified the list, academy by academy, cleaning the data and removing duplicates and false results. For each academy, I added a Google Maps link, the neighbourhood(s) they operate in, a website, any available information for candidates, and an email address. This verified their existence and ongoing operations in Barcelona, and is helpful for ESL teachers looking for work.

I then added every other English academy I could find on Google Maps to the list, searching for hours through the neighbourhoods using terms like ‘English academy’ and ‘academia de Ingles’. I also browsed through a few job sites to see which academies were hiring and checked them against the list.

The final result is this list of 107 English academies in Barcelona.

How to use this list

Use the ‘Control-F’ keyboard shortcut to bring up a search bar. Type in your Barcelona neighbourhood (or surrounding neighbourhoods) to find English academies that are close to you. ESL employers prefer candidates who live nearby, and it means less commuting time for you!

Use the Google Maps link to see where the academy is exactly, to get an idea of what it looks like, and to read the reviews. The reviews will tell you about the students’ experience, which is a good indicator of the quality of the academy (keep in mind that this is not necessarily a reflection of how they treat their teachers).
